Our sincere thanks to all the members who volunteered for the TPC and our Charity Golf Tournament to make them again a resounding success.
The Southside Business Men’s Club Charity Golf Classic has for the past 13 years been the major fund raising event for our Youth Achiever Program (YAP). Jay Cann and Crump Kirby, who have run the tournament since its inception, put on one of the best tournaments in our city.
Chairman’s Message for YAP Golf Tournament
I am proud to be the SBMC Chairman of the Board for 2009. I encourage you and your business associates and friends to not only participate in the 2009 Charity Golf tournament but sponsor a hole. All money raised goes to our Youth Achiever Program Scholarship Fund. There is no better cause than that of supporting and encouraging our youth.
This is one of the best days of golf, networking and camaraderie you will ever experience.
Sign up a foursome today and see you on May 11th at Deerwood Country Club.
The Southside Business Men’s Club, Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic holds a very special place in my heart since its conception in 1996. I can’t believe we are hosting our 15th Year. I have truly enjoyed working with our Golf Committee over the past two years. This year the Committee and I have put together a wonderful tribute to our tournament, plus some very special surprises during our regular Club Meeting on Wednesday April 28th. I promise you will not be disappointed.
We hope 2010 will be THE year that will exceed our dream for a full field of 100 Participants and 40 Sponsors. I hope you will consider becoming part of one of the nicest charity golf tournaments in town. Ask a friend or two, surprise a client and show them a wonderful time on a beautiful day at a Private Golf Course for only $125 per person. You’ll have a great time, a nice lunch, plenty of beverages all day, a marvelous BBQ Rib & Chicken Dinner and the opportunity to win or bid on fabulous silent auction items and prizes.
All of the proceeds from our Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic go directly to the Southside Business Men’s Club Charities, Inc., a 501c3 corporation, which provides the funding for Annual Scholarships that are made available to our local high school graduating seniors. For more information about this opportunity, visit our website: www.southsidebusinessmensclub.com.
At the end of the day you will have a wonderful time at the Awards Banquet, meeting people and dining on the best BBQ Ribs and chicken around town. Thank you for this opportunity to serve as your 2010 Tournament Chairman. Please remember “To Give from Your Heart”.
A dozen years ago or so I was attending a SBMC Board of Governors meeting talking about raising money for our newly founded Youth Achiever Program. We talked about raising a few hundred dollars, spending hundreds of volunteer hours having just a couple of events. Then it hit me! I was already involved in three other charity golf tournaments in town: The Methodist Hospice Tournament, The Girls Scouts Tournament and the Doug Milne Memorial Tournament. So I made a motion at the Board meeting to start our own charity golf event. I enlisted the help of someone I knew I could count on, Jay Cann. The rest is history.
The first year (1996) we raised about $3,400 and every year since then, we have been able to increase the amount raised for the Youth Achiever Scholarship Fund. In 2008 we raised almost $18,000. It has been a pleasure working with Jay, knowing we will do our best to make this event better and better.
It is very fulfilling to give support to our wonderful YAP students. These dedicated kids arrive at school early and stay late. Rain or shine, they work hard to keep their fellow students safe as school crossing guards; understanding good grades keeps them on patrol. Our YAP children are the future, and with the support of the SBMC it is looking very bright.
It is an honor and a priviledge to be working with Jay D. Cann. It takes a special individual to give from their heart, especially to help children. Jay, and his lovely wife Lynn, are those types of people. Jay continues to give year, after year, after year. Your support is needed again this year, as the children of YAP are counting on the SBMC to continue the tradition. "See you on the green!"
