Welcome to the Annual SBMC Charity Golf Classic

President’s Message for YAP Golf Tournament

First, a big and sincere thank you to our Tournament Chairman, Jay Cann and Crump Kirby, for their labor of love in organizing the Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic. I’ve played in many charity golf events and this is one of the very best. A great cause, a great golf course, great people, with great food and refreshments. What more can you ask for!

Second, our deepest appreciation to the many tournament sponsors and players. Without you, we don’t have a successful tournament that raises money for our Youth Achiever Program Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your support!

Sign up a foursome today and see you on May 23rd at San Jose Country Club.

The Southside Business Men’s Club, Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic still holds a very special place in my heart since its conception in May of 1996. It’s hard to believe we are hosting our 16th annual event.

Our Golf Committee has worked diligently to make sure this year’s event will be a day to remember. They have been working on another “special meeting day” for April 27th. I know it be will hard to top last year’s video and live action meeting, but once again the meeting-of-the-minds have promised to be entertaining and enjoyable.

ALL of the proceeds from our Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic go directly to the Southside Business Men’s Club Charities, Inc., a 501c3 corporation, which provides the funding for our Annual Scholarships that are made available to and given to the qualified local high school seniors every spring. For more information about this opportunity visit our club website: www.southsidebusinessmensclub.com

Our Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic is our clubs largest fund raising event each year for the Youth Achiever Scholarship Fund.  This along with our Spring and Fall Y.A.P. events are responsible for the funding of our annual Scholarships that are awarded. Please help us to keep these Scholarships available for our Young People who will make a difference in our community through their continuing education.

I hope you will consider being a part of our 16th Annual Charity Golf Classic, I promise you fun day of golf, delicious lunch and fabulous dinner. The weather promises to be sunny, mild and an excellent day for a round of golf. There are various ways to be a part of our Charity event, player participation, become a Hole Sponsor or volunteer your time. In either capacity, you will be included with the Free beverages, lunch and dinner. We will also have door prizes and a wonderful Silent Auction.

Please view our Charity Golf Website and our Cub website as well. I hope you will be able to join us on Monday, May 23rd. See you Then!

A dozen years ago or so I was attending a SBMC Board of Governors meeting talking about raising money for our newly founded Youth Achiever Program. We talked about raising a few hundred dollars, spending hundreds of volunteer hours having just a couple of events. Then it hit me! I was already involved in three other charity golf tournaments in town: The Methodist Hospice Tournament, The Girls Scouts Tournament and the Doug Milne Memorial Tournament. So I made a motion at the Board meeting to start our own charity golf event. I enlisted the help of someone I knew I could count on, Jay Cann. The rest is history.

The first year (1996) we raised about $3,400 and every year since then, we have been able to increase the amount raised for the Youth Achiever Scholarship Fund. In 2008 we raised almost $18,000. It has been a pleasure working with Jay, knowing we will do our best to make this event better and better.

It is very fulfilling to give support to our wonderful YAP students. These dedicated kids arrive at school early and stay late. Rain or shine, they work hard to keep their fellow students safe as school crossing guards; understanding good grades keeps them on patrol. Our YAP children are the future, and with the support of the SBMC it is looking very bright.

I'm always happy to contribute to our club and its charities.  I've been a member for
10 years now, and feel like this is my second family.  I've played in the tournament for quite a few years, and it gives me a warm feeling to know that I'm contributing in an even larger role this year.

I'll be glad to help this wonderfully successful tournament for years to come.
