Issue 277, April 27, 2025

This past Wednesday, we welcomed guest speaker Ed Seifert from the Florida Department of Transportation. Mr. Seifert turned out to be an incredibly interesting person. Now, you might say if you weren’t in attendance at the meeting: “what could be so interesting about building roads, expanded highways, and causing traffic to back up for miles?”. And sure, it’s good to know that when the new roadway is completed, it may help us all get around town much faster.
But the real story was Mr. Seifert. It was inspiring to hear about the long road he took and the many “on and off ramps” he encountered in his life along the way in his life that led him to where he is today. Starting off in the Coast Guard, followed by a career in law enforcement, and then earning his pilot’s license. This is just the tip of the iceberg of his accomplishments, and I know I am missing many of them. So much so that at one point during Tim Buchanan’s reading of Mr. Seifert’s resume, I turned to him and jokingly teased that he was a slacker (to which we both laughed).
Mr. Seifert’s talk got me thinking about our club’s history and the many things we have accomplished and obstacles that we have overcome during out 93 years. Also, about our many members and the many different roads and paths that they have traveled down.
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting, and until then remember: the road of life is what you make it!
